Publication launch: 'Written By Us, Not About Us'
Reclaiming Art Histories & Developing Critical Discourse in Northern Ireland and Nigeria
Northern Irish Art Network and African Artists' Foundation
Please join us for the launch of Written By Us, Not About Us, a publication of newly commissioned texts by nine writers from the North of Ireland and Nigeria, whose work responds to the visual art and culture of their respective contexts.
The book is the culmination of a collaborative project by
Northern Irish Art Network (NIAN) and African Artists' Foundation (AAF), which addressed the need for greater critical discourse around visual art practice and art histories in both Northern Ireland and Nigeria. Showcasing the work of some of these countries' most exciting emerging writers, the book features reviews, critical essays and experimental writings that reflect, chronicle and illuminate artistic practice across both regions.
Featuring contributions by Tony Agbapuonwu, Korede Kaneto Akinsete, TJ Benson, Dorothy Hunter, Tara McGinn, Michaela Razafima. Nash, Adeoluwa Oluwajoba, Padraig Regan and Ude Ugo. Publication design by Alex Synge/The First 47.
Food and refreshments will be provided at the launch, where copies of the publication will also be available.
We hope you can join us in celebrating this extraordinary collaboration. Read more about the development of the project on our Programmes pages here.
'Written By Us, Not About Us: Reclaiming Art Histories & Developing Critical Discourse in Northern Ireland and Nigeria' is funded by the British Council’s International Collaboration Grants, which are designed to support UK and overseas organisations to collaborate on international arts projects.
