PS² Graduate Award show

All graduates of Belfast School of Art in 2023, the five artists present a selection of painting, sculpture and print that they have developed in their first year out of college. 

Anya Nicholl’s sculptures are non-bodily representation of primal human needs such as warmth, their form reflecting the metamorphosis of objects and tools over time. Mollie Browne’s manipulated photographs are born of feelings of disconnection and anxiety; a sense of dissolving referenced by the picture surface. Eimear Harkin paints scenes of urban dereliction in oils – a dichotomy of value and tradition. Éabha Campbell also works in oils amongst other media. The paintings in this exhibition explore themes of decay, abjection, and visceral experiences from a queer perspective. Andrea Murray López’s imagined and deconstructed spaces are rooted in sentiments of displacement and metaphorical longing for both place and time.  

The PS² Graduate award is an initiative funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland that supports creative and professional development for graduating artists based in Northern Ireland, and fosters long term relationships and collaborations between emerging artists and arts organisations.

A panel of PS² staff visited the degree show in University of Ulsters Belfast School of Art and selected the five artists from an internal open call. During the year the five artists will receive support from PS² and develop a group show to round out the 23/24 programme year.
