How We Get Free

A Black Feminist Performance Art Programme

Curated by Clodagh Assata Boyce. Part of Outburst Arts

Ends 13 December 2025

How We Get Free invites global majority artists from the Island of Ireland and beyond to engage with Black Feminist theory and practices in the context of performance art. Including two new Outburst Arts commissions, PS² hosts artists working across performance, photography and film, engaging with and unpacking ideas around refusal and marginalisation posed by Black, queer, feminist artists in the late 20th century.

This Black and Brown and Queer jubilation celebrates personal and political acts of resistance to state and to binaries. Artists interrogate systems of oppression and strive towards community making. It’s not who you do, it’s what you do!

This night begins with insurgent films empowered by sex and sexuality, followed by an autobiographical performance from Diana Bamimeke on being a young Black artist in Ireland and Fiona Fitwi delivering spoken and culinary delights at the end of the night. These happenings will be documented by Belfast-based visual artist Macy Stewart, employing a Black gaze to gather moments between audience and artists.
