This exhibition presents a selection of work made by participants during the walk&sketch workshops this summer see.
Walk & sketch in the park was a series of free walking and sketching events held during June- September in Belfast parks. This was the third time artists Cilla Wagner and Sharon Kelly organised this project which is very popular and often oversubscribed.

With this presentation a link is made between the outdoor creative activity with our project space, bridging the gap between dedicated hobby, creative leisure activity and serious art production. It also opens and exposes the work to a wider audience, who might be inspired to give it a try as well.

Background

Walk and sketch in the park was a series of 8 free walking and sketching events in 7 of Belfast's city parks during this summer. Participants were invited to join artists Sharon Kelly and Cilla Wagner for a gentle walk through the park with regular stops to sketch, draw or watercolour at various locations. Participants were supported and encouraged by the facilitating artists to observe and visually translate the world around them by using materials provided at the event (pencils, charcoal and wet media such as watercolour and pen/wash). Sketches were made by observing the surrounding landscape in the immediate park and natural world (flowers, plants and trees) and any architecture of the park (gateways, buildings, bridges). Views from the parksl also provided subject matter for sketching.
The facilitating artists provided artistic support and encouragement so that participants felt able to try sketching at their own pace.
